The Ascender Installer is about to change. To make it simpler to maintain, we have decided to split it into 2 public repos.
- A repo for installing a Kubernetes cluster of your choosing (ascender-k8s-installer)
- A repo for installing Ascender to an existing Kubernetes environment (ascender-installer)
The reason for this, is to simplify the configuration necessary when installing or updating just Ascender. If you have seen the default config, the amount of options is starting to get unwieldy. After installing your cluster, 90% of the options become unnecessary, as you are only dealing with the Ascender portions from there forward.
The new k8s installer will also deviate from the current form. Each k8s environment will now have its own folder and completely separate configs / playbooks for setting up each type of k8s. This means you now will only be presented with just the options necessary to complete the install.
The Ascender installer will also undergo some changes. We will start to trim it down to just the active Open Source products (We will be open sourcing a few more products, but more on that later) and will be looking into moving to using helm instead (but may create a separate repo just for that).
