I have heard the rumblings, and know that not everyone likes Kubernetes. So I created a PR that supplies a few different methods of installing Ascender.
ctrliq/ascender-install234
This adds 3 alternative ways of installing Ascender. While utilizing K8S is the preferred and "supported" route. This is not always optimal for everyone, especially if you just want to try it out or have a small environment. So we have added 3 alternative methods. Each one has a README that explains the method a bit better.
- Docker Compose -
docker and docker compose should already be setup on the server. Then you can just run the short setup.sh which generates the self signed cert and random passwords and then do a docker compose up -d
- Podman - This is a podman native install (using a systemd service for Ascender). So just do a
dnf install podman and then run the install.sh script, and in 8 minutes you have a fully working Ascender install.
- Direct Services - For those that don't want containers, this has an Ansible playbook that will directly setup postgres, valkey, etc.. and pull down the Ascender source and build it and run it all as systemd services. This takes the longest and can take upwards of 30 minutes to complete.
NOTE: I have only tested these with Rocky 9. Other EL variants may work. I have definitely not tested with Ubuntu and don't expect any of them to work on there, especially the podman or services method. Docker may.
